Symbiotic Relationships 2019

This is an updated version of a post from 2012

I’m in the midst of heavy duty care giving again, this time helping my younger brother recover from a stroke. It helps me to remember that in every situation, I’m receiving as well as giving. Right now there is healing occurring on many levels. My brother and I share a unique childhood, no one else in the family (who is still alive) experienced the things we experienced. And I’m benefiting in other ways, like getting to spend my weekends running around Manhattan.

“Symbiotic Relationships”usually refers to two different species, such as barnacles on whales or birds on rhinos.  Barnacles grow on whales and live off of particles floating in the surrounding ocean that would otherwise affect the whale’s vision.  Several kinds of birds feed off of insects that live on rhino’s skin (you could say the insects themselves have a symbiotic relationship with their host).

It’s also a good term for how we humans interact with each other.

Biology describes 5 different kinds of Symbiotic Relationships:

  1. Mutualism, where both species benefit
  2. Commensalism, where one species benefits, the other is unaffected
  3. Parasitism, where one species benefits, the other is harmed
  4. Competition, where neither species benefits
  5. Neutralism, where both species are unaffected

(taken from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_symbiotic_relationship#ixzz20XXT5FYX)

It’s an interesting way to look at your friends, family and coworkers!  Is your relationship Mutual, a ‘win-win’ for each person?  Are you and your partner, family member, or employer/coworker/customer equally benefiting?

Is it Commensal you’re getting something and they’re not getting anything but it doesn’t matter to them?  That’s a tougher one to imagine.  Even if you feel you’re putting out all the effort and getting nothing back, there’s always something returning to you.

It gets a little messy when considering Parasites.  People aren’t exactly ticks or noxious weeds, but you could look at some government officials being parasitical when they want tax breaks for themselves while withdrawing services for others. When I was a teenager, my father called my mother, my brother and I, “parasites”. Verbal abuse scars the soul. This is one of the childhood wounds I’m hoping I’m healing while I’m New York.

Biology defines Competition as where *neither* benefits.  Spiritually, competition stops growth and creativity, as it places your attention outside yourself.  Competition focuses not just on doing better than someone but in outdoing them.  In biology it affects survival.

Neutral is as tough to imagine as Commensal, because how can there be an interaction without being affected?

Unless you’re roughing it on a desert island, we are all interdependent, no matter how alone or resistant you may feel.  No relationship is truly one way.  Even anonymously helping someone leaves you with a good feeling, just as using them leaves you feeling bad.

It can be disturbing to realize in a dysfunctional relationship you were actually getting something out of it.  Perhaps you were afraid to leave because you were still trying to get taken care of.  Perhaps you didn’t want to take responsibility for yourself.  Perhaps their dysfunction made you seem normal!

We are all participating in a giant energetic tapestry called life.  Each of us is creating or emitting a colorful thread of our own unique vibration.  And from a broader perspective we’ve agreed to be here interacting with everyone else.  It’s all good, even if we don’t experience it that way at the moment.

This week, in your relationships, notice – are you the whale or the barnacle? The rhino or the bird?  The tree or the ivy?  It doesn’t matter if you’re big or little, you’re receiving something from it!  Acknowledging the pattern can help you change it.  Recognizing your part or what you’re receiving from it can help you accept it, and transform it if you want to.

Try this for 7 days and see what happens!

Mystic Musings: The New Way To Navigate!

The New Way To Navigate ©2019 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

My brother and I were in the laundry room of his apartment building in Queens, NY. All the washers were full but had finished their cycle. He said to take the wet clothes out of one so we could use it.

“Shouldn’t we wait to see if they come for it?” I asked.

“No,” he said. “It’s the New York way.”

So we did, and actually never saw anyone else in the laundry room during the time we were doing our wash.

It was an unusual experience for me because I’ve not used public laundry facilities for nearly 40 years. I have a different sense of space and ownership.

Their neighbor on their floor is an elderly woman whose television plays 24/7. Right next to my brother’s bedroom. The people upstairs keep unusual hours, you hear their shoes tromping above you at all times of the day and night.

Outside, New Yorkers have no trouble expressing themselves with their car horns and voices. They’ll honk when two cars ahead of them there’s a school bus.

It’s not my way. I don’t know how much of it is growing up in different countries and cultures, lead to my quietly navigating around and through. Or being empathic, I consider others when choosing my own actions.

In highly populated areas there’s a different experience of density and effort. On one hand it’s a mosaic of individuals and their radiant energies. On the other hand it’s a tangled snarl of opposing patterns.

The old paradigm of having boundaries in these circumstances would be to loudly express yourself, to physically dominate your location, to densify your personality to make your presence known.

There’s a different way to navigate all of this from 5D. You can own your space without dominance, without noise. You can be loud, as in joyfully singing your own music into the world. You can be present, and your Presence is inherently noticeable.

You can own your space calmly in the face of others reacting to your changing frequency.

You don’t have to match the energy of the crowd, nor do you need to resist it. You can expand your inner openness. In non-resistance, you let the energy pass through and dissipate.

Even as I know these things, I don’t always practice them perfectly. I’ve gotten angry here at a volume that would be offensive in Seattle and in New York, nobody blinks.  But I’ve also found the most potent way to be Presence on the subway is to smile.

Consciousness is shifting, our frequency is becoming lighter and more expansive. The rules for navigating are different on this level. There’s no clear guide book, as we’re all entering this brave new world somewhat together (and some kicking and screaming).

The old ways are effective in this new reality. We need to upgrade our old techniques, improvise and make stuff up.

New navigation is fun, experiential, done from a sense of play and curiosity. When you start to move through the world in these new ways, your entire life transforms.

When Visions (and Intentions) are Limiting ©2019 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

F 0 Comments

Today’s a potent new moon, and apparently a great time to set intentions for manifesting by the Full moon. I always feel a sense of conflict nowadays between having a vision for the future and being in the present moment, accepting if not content with what is.

My experience as Consciousness in 5D shows me that being in present time feels expansive and unlimited. There’s no need to set intentions or create a vision for the future because you’re creating everything as Consciousness in the Now and it’s all unfolding in your (and everyone’s) favor.

The part of me that wants to set intentions and have a perfect vision is the part of me that thinks there’s something wrong with what is, and wants to manipulate and control outcomes so the results look just the way they’re ‘supposed’ to.

On the other hand, there is a level of reality that operates like a 3D printer and whatever you think about repetitively shows up in your life. If all you’re focused on is your dismal existence and can’t imagine anything better, you’re going to keep experiencing things dismally.

It doesn’t have anything to do with intentions, but it does have to do with focus. When you’re viewing things through the lens of your mind machine, from the level of thought, everything is going to look like a problem that needs fixing.

When you shift your identification and focus to that as Consciousness, everything is going to look like a fun creation to play in or play with.

As Mind-Body-Personality, you’re a helpless drone in this world is one of density and effort. Your mind can only create in reaction to whatever has already happened.

As Consciousness, you’re a kid in a candy store. When you consider your future as Consciousness, it’s a Disney World of possibilities.

It’s all fun, and play, and choices, and options.

It isn’t a matter of changing your mindset, or raising your awareness. You can easily and effortlessly step through a door to a Parallel Universe where it’s unfolding in your favor. You don’t even have to look for the right door, you don’t need to perform specific rituals, you don’t have to be perfect in any way.

When you do this, it’s infinitely subtle and distinctly profound. And what results is beyond your wildest imagination, something you could never have thought possible.

What Are Emotions? A 5D Perspective ©2018 Joan M. Newcomb, CPC

One of my clients was sharing about her Consciousness shift and it brought into perspective my multileveled awareness of emotions.

At a basic level, emotions are simply a body’s language to communicate to You, Consciousness. It fundamentally expresses itself the same way, and for the same reasons, as it did when it was an infant. Your body cries when it’s tired, hungry, uncomfortable, in pain, frightened, etc. That doesn’t mean you’re crying all the time as an adult, but it’s crying out in some way for your attention.

When we’re paying attention to our body, feeding it right, letting it sleep when it wants to, tending to it’s needs, it’s basically happy. But if we’re off in the future with great potential creations, our body feels abandoned, thinks we’re leaving permanently, it is sure we’re dying. When our attention is on the past, it is a fascinating exploration to Consciousness but the body feels mired in it’s immovability of regret, resentment, mourning, and loss.

That’s at the basic level. The next level is when you take into consideration everyone else’s emotions. As Consciousness we’re all naturally empathic, telepathic, kinesthetic, and/or clairvoyant. So we’ll tune into what others are feeling and think it’s ours. Or even if we can discern it’s someone else’s, it can be hard to detach from it. Other people’s emotions seem to magnify our own.

Old school solutions to these problems were to detach from our own feelings, discipline ourselves not to feel them or ignore them. Many religious practices included denying the body food or comfort as a way to become more spiritual. Which kind of misses the point of being here. What you find out when you die is that you were spirit all along, and your reason for incarnating was to experience being in a physical body.

Being present to the body by being in the present moment, is a more effective way to ‘be more spiritual’. When you’re in present time, that is, your attention is withdrawn from the past or the future, you’re able to fully occupy the body, and then it’s really happy. The heaviness of the past is gone, the uncertainty of the future has disappeared, it knows it’s alive and being taken care of.

We think we don’t like being in present time because it’s too limiting. Our mind, which is our GPS, is programmed to always be going somewhere (and checking past maps for how to get there). But as Consciousness, the present moment is infinitely expansive. True transformation is initiated in the Now.

What I’m finding with my own Consciousness shift, is that my old ways of being in the Now have me tuned into others, and a lot of the time I’m swimming through quite a lot of emotional frequencies. My old ways of detaching seem uncompassionate and incongruent with the increasing interconnectedness that is a result of our collective Evolution that is occurring.

When I play with my Consciousness techniques, everything reorganizes into a completely different experience. It’s like going from old style animation to CGI. I feel like I effortlessly refocus into being more fully embodied and yet extremely clear and alert (without having to spend hours ‘cleaning energy’, ‘getting unstuck’, ‘removing blocks’, etc.).

And it’s not about getting to 5D and staying there. As Consciousness we move between levels without judgment.

What about others in our hologram? What about all the emotions being flung about out there?

This morning I woke extremely early and was instantly aware of a lot of uncomfortable feelings. I felt a lot of grief and physical discomfort. My first thought was that it was me, it’s been a tough week, physically and emotionally. So I stewed in it for awhile, until I became aware that I was feeling others emotions. So I looked at my clock, to figure out time zones, since I have loved ones 3,000 miles away on either side of the globe from me. A little while later it occurred to me that it was actually the people in this apartment I’m in, which should have been obvious but at 3:25am I assumed they were asleep.

So then I used a Consciousness Technique for centering in the hologram, and discovered that all the feelings stopped being in my body and seemed to be in a ball in the center of the room. (This doesn’t really mean anything because as Consciousness there is no time or space, so locations like up, down, in, and out, don’t hold true anymore). And when I created a focal point on that ball, it initially seemed to be less intense. Which gave me the opportunity to start writing this post.

Halfway through, the other inhabitants needed my assistance, and I was able to respond with clarity, amusement, and even affection. When I came back to writing, I noticed the shift of focus yet again.

Now, it’s all a creation of Consciousness, and whatever you’re experiencing is your creation as Consciousness. Even if others are extras in your movie, they’re also expressions of Consciousness moving through your soundstage, so to speak.

I’m not spending time resisting other’s emotions, or trying to get them out of my space. Consciousness is the highest level of non-resistance, of being so open that negative or denser energies pass right through.

I’m also not trying to change, fix or improve others or the situation, unless out of curiosity something spontaneously occurs to me to play with.

It’s a completely different way of navigating reality, beyond our mind’s GPS which wants to take us deeper into the density because that’s all that it knows. And in so doing, to feel more authentic and expansive joy, passion, love, than you ever thought possible.
